Understanding Your Vision

When one looks at the passage in Isaiah 61:3 on which our President's theme is based it is important to realise that there is so much in this particular verse that this year we will be looking at phrase by phrase.
Isa 61:1-3 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; to proclaim the year of the LORD's favour, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn;  to grant to those who mourn in Zion— to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit; that they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he may be glorified.

However, we will start by looking at the context in which the prophet wrote these verses and reflect how these verses impact our lives based on the fact that Jesus himself quoted these verses in the book of Luke 4:18.
At the start of the year it is important to reaffirm who we are and what our goals are that we will attempt to achieve.  Jesus does this in Luke 4 by quoting these verses out of Isaiah .  His declaration clearly states the following:-
  • God's spirit is upon Him to perform a task.
  • Each person who has God's Spirit should do the following tasks:-
      • Preach the Good News to the poor (Poor means anyone who does not have a relationship with Him)
      • Bind up the brokenhearted
      • Liberty for the captives
      • Liberation for the prisoners
      • Comfort for the hurting and discouraged
  • Those who do this will be considered righteous.
  • The  goal is for God to get the Glory.
For those in ministry it is important to fulfil the goals and purpose that God has given you in the place where he has placedHe will be glorified in what you do when you fulfill the goal he has given us.
